Teenagers and young adults attending the Inspired Youth workshop on the opening day of the week long 2016 Youth Month Career Development Expo at NASREC in Johannesburg tomorrow (Saturday 11 June) will have the opportunity to win an educational bursary and a host of valuable prizes by participating in the motivational tasks presented at the event.
Conducted by Pride Factor, the founders of the Inspired Youth platform designed to inspire the future leaders of South Africa, the workshop has attracted nearly 4,000 attendees and features insights from, and interaction with, the country’s highest profile role models and entertainers alongside exhibitions and educational programmes.
The top prize is the Shane McConnachie Award of Excellence comprising a bursary to the value of R10 000 to study the subjects of the winner’s choice at Varsity College. The award has been inaugurated by Pride Factor in honour of McConnachie, one of the founders of the Dare to Share NPO and a tireless social activist who selflessly enhanced the lives of disadvantaged people before tragically dying earlier this year.
Prizes ranging from apparel and accessories to energy drinks and airtime have been kindly supplied by Investec, Synchronised Marketing, Vodacom and the McCormick Property Development properties of Thorntree Shopping Centre, Soshanguve Plaza, Atteridge Stadium Centre and Diepkloof Square, many of whom have also sponsored groups of youngsters to attend the workshop.
Services and products to support the event have also been provided by Protea Hotels, AquaVita Mineral Water and Score Energy Drink.
The high calibre speaker lineup includes celebrity Minnie Dlamini; TV presenter Katlego Maboe, SABC Foundation CEO Iris Cupido, entrepreneur Miles Kubheka, author Nozi Kubeka and the inspirational Sandile Mkhize. The entertainment will be provided by superstar rapper Rouge and the vibey Alexandra May.
The four-hour workshop starts a full day of aspirational activities and is produced by Pride Factor and Liquorish Inc. in conjunction with the National Financial Literacy Association, National Youth Skills Development Programme, One Young World, the SABC Foundation and the Gauteng Provincial Government.
The afternoon session is made up of programs conducted by the National Financial Literacy Association while the One Young World Networking Dinner will be staged at the venue that evening.
